About The Club
The club is the most successful on the pitch, and best socially off the pitch. Our men’s 1st XI finished 3rd in the South Premier A for the second year running. Our women’s first XI compete in the South Premier B, and made the first ever Big BUCS Final this season. This year sees a big push towards promotion. We have 6 other sides; 3 men, 3 women, who all compete successfully in respective BUCS leagues.
We also offer 1 Mixed team, open to all club members who compete with other local mixed teams, alongside other university friendlies, and the big social game being the Varsity match!
Although the Men’s and Ladies’ teams do not compete in local leagues, a lot of OBUHC Members play for other Oxford Clubs such as the Oxford Hawks and Oxford City Hockey Club at the weekends.
Training happens on a Monday between 4:15pm and 10:30pm, depending on which team you are in; training times are on a weekly rota. Other training sessions might be organised during the week for those who wish to develop their skills further, or for extra team practices. Matches all take place on Wednesday afternoons.
The highlight of our club however, is the extremely strong social side. Every Wednesday, members of the club gather to watch fellow teams play at home – sometimes watching the best standard of university hockey in the UK. The Club then has an array of team socials, before meeting for a full Club social, and finally heading onto various nightclubs. For more information about the social side of the hockey club, please see the ‘Social’ section.

What We Get Up To
The club has a reputation of being the best and most sociable club at Oxford Brookes. This year, we have two Social Secs, Rory Prichard and Ella Clayton, who aim to deliver a great season full of fun days and crazy nights. OBUHC welcomes everyone, so no matter whether you are in the first team, the fourth team or don’t even play hockey, you can come along and enjoy your night, because you’ll be guaranteed a great time.
One really special aspect to OBUHC is that we are a mixed club, meaning the Men’s and Ladies’ side of the clubs social together, giving you the chance to have friends outside of your course and your halls.
With an impressive turnout to our Wednesday night socials where we attend the main event of the night with a few different nightclubs lined up this year, as a whole club, in either fancy dress or smart attire – we party hard and show the other clubs how it’s done.
With games on nearly every Wednesday, home and away, it’s important that teams bond quickly which is why each team will have their own socials before attending the whole club social on a Wednesday. The whole club social is held at a local bar, where we celebrate all the successes that we’ve enjoyed throughout that day as a club, before then moving on to the main event and celebrating with all the Brookes sports teams.
With OBUHC having an impressive 9 teams (4 Men’s, 4 Ladies’) and also a Mixed team, it’s important that as well as knowing your own team, that you also know the whole club, which is why we hold special whole club socials. With old traditions such as the Three Legged Pub Crawl, Christmas Dinner, Curry Social, Varsity, May Day and the Sports Awards remaining within the club. We also have great new ideas lined up, such as Rubik’s Cube social, OBUHC Sports Day, and a whole club Centurion! All of the Committee have great ideas in place to make this a year and a season to remember and we can’t wait to get going.
Any further questions then please don’t hesitate to ask either Rory Pritchard and Ella Clayton.
